Roberto Clemente

On August 17, 1984, Roberto Clemente was the second baseball player to be featured on a stamp. Born in Puerto Rico to Black and Hispanic parents, Clemente joined Major League Baseball in 1955 through 1972. During the off season in 1958-1959, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps Military Reserve and served during the off seasons through 1964. He was inducted to the Hall of Fame in March of 1973, succeeding his death in December of 1972.
