American Black Power Conference

On July 20, 1967, the first American Black Power Conference was held in Newark, New Jersey. The conference was held for three days from July 20-July 23rd. More than 1,000 delegates representing 286 organizations and institutions from 126 cities in 26 states, Bermuda, and Nigeria attended the conference. The conference held workshops, presented papers for specific programs, and developed resolutions for more than 80 concerns calling for the emphasis of Black Power in political, economic, and cultural affairs.
