Ralph J. Bunche

On January 19, 1969, UCLA renamed its social science building after one of its key alumni, Ralph Bunche. It is now known as The Ralph J. Bunche for African American Studies. Ralph Bunche was an American academic, political scientist, and United Nations diplomat. He was also the first African American to win a Nobel Peace Prize for his mediation in the Arab-Israeli conflict. Bunche also supported the civil rights movement and was involved with Martin Luther King Jr.’s movement on several occasions.
