Can You Fly with CBD?

The amount of times I get asked this question has been more times than I can count and the simple answer is… it depends.

CBD is the non-psychoactive compound found in cannabis. Under the 2018 Farm Bill, as long as there is less than 0.3% of THC it is classified as legal hemp.

If crossing state lines by air and you have CBD on you that contains less than 0.3% of THC then you are technically in the clear, provided you follow the TSA guidelines.

Also, there are tons of products that now contain a mixture of both CBD and THC and in that case you are NOT allowed to travel with THC over state lines because THC is still classified as an illegal substance under federal regulations.

Now when it comes to international travel things can get a lot trickier. One should check the country in which they are traveling to because not all countries have classified CBD in the way the US has. Majority of countries still classify cannabis as a whole as a federally illegal substance.

It’s best to err on the side of caution and to NOT pack CBD with you because if a country you enter into has banned cannabis outright you could face extreme consequences.

While we hope that eventually we see some federal moves in legalizing cannabis, it’s better to be safe than sorry when traveling with cannabis and leave it at home.

No one wants to be that person who gets pulled for a security check at the airport, mid-flight or even when you land at your destination. Because believe me, it happens more often than you think.
