Cannabis v. Hemp: What's the difference?
While Cannabis and Hemp come from the same plant species, the biggest difference between the two is that Hemp is legal locally and federally. Another key difference is that Hemp doesn't get you high because it contains no more than 0.3 percent THC.
According to California law, “Cannabis” means all parts of the plant Cannabis sativa Linnaeus, Cannabis indica, or Cannabis ruderalis, whether growing or not; the seeds thereof; the resin, whether crude or purified, extracted from any part of the plant; and every compound, manufacture, salt, derivative, mixture, or preparation of the plant, its seeds, or resin. “Cannabis” also means the separated resin, whether crude or purified, obtained from cannabis.
"Industrial hemp" or “Hemp”, on the other hand, means an agricultural product, whether growing or not, that is limited to types of the plant Cannabis sativa Linnaeus. and any part of that plant, including the seeds of the plant and all derivatives, extracts, the resin extracted from any part of the plant, cannabinoids, isomers, acids, salts, and salts of isomers, with a delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol concentration of no more than 0.3 percent on a dry weight basis.
