Constance Baker Motley

Constance Baker Motley was born on September 14, 1921 in New Haven, CT. She was a key strategist of the civil rights movement, a lawyer, a judge, and a New York State senator. Constance aided Thurgood Marshall as a law clerk during the Brown v Board of Education case. Baker was also the first African American woman appointed to the federal judiciary.
