On June 22, 1909, Katherin Dunham was born in Chicago, Il. Katherine was an African American dancer, author, educator, and choreographer. She created the dance called the Dunham Technique. She directed her own dance company for years. Katherine has also been called "The matriarch and queen mother of black dance."
