Fun Fact:

Dates are an excellent natural sweetener typically referred to as fructose. Fructose is the name of unprocessed sugars found in fruit. These are not the same types of sugars found in candy or artificially processed cereals but are the sugars found in nature. Dates are sweet with a caramel flavor. They make a great healthy substitute for sugar and honey in recipes due to the nutrients, fiber, and antioxidants they provide.

Did you know?

Food miles are a way of measuring how far the food has traveled before it reaches the consumer. It is a good way of looking at the environmental impact of foods. Food miles also apply to getting food waste from your trash bins to the landfill. The effects of food miles can be measured in the pollution that is caused. Think about it this way, how is the food delivered to the grocery store or market that you’ve purchased it from? Was the food coming all the way from Mexico, Chile, or Brazil? Was it delivered by plane, train, boat, and semi-truck? All of these means of transportation add to the pollution in the environment. With that being said, it is time to think about where your food has come from and what environmental effects the transportation and delivery of your food have taken to arrive at your frequented grocery store.
