Convenient Cannabis

Get In. Get Out. Get On With Your Life.

That’s how some cannabis stores should operate, right?

Well, the purpose behind that thinking is to keep operating costs low while still maintaining efficiency, as some Canadian retailers see it.

Why wait in line at a dispensary when you can easily go to a convenience store and quickly grab your cannabis?

Convenience stores have always been just that, convenient.

It’s a type of business model that some cannabis retailers, particularly in Canada are navigating towards. They believe that some people don’t care about the glamorous fancy side of weed. Some just want to quickly grab what they want, pay, and exit. After all, time is money.

In these last couple of years, cannabis brands have over-saturated the market. As such, retailers are also seeing their sales decrease per store.

Due to the rapid increase in the amount of stores popping up, there is a high risk of increased competition as well as an overcrowded marketplace.

As such, it shouldn’t be surprising when stores begin to close down or there is a resize in the market.

One express convenience store owner in Canada has set up his 8 stores where there is just 1 budtender. He believes that the reason his 8 express stores are so successful is because he’s kept his labor costs low.

He also didn’t sign an expensive lease with a landlord during the January 2019 rush that occurred in Canada when the market began to open.

The bigger stores are going to quickly catch on to this type of model. Many consumers already know what they want and they don’t need the fluff that comes with these bigger shops.

Will you be surprised if we start seeing Cookies convenience stores popping up in the next year or so?
