Lab Testing at the State Fair

Cannabis will be Judged at the California State Fair!

Yes you heard that right. The California state fair will judge and honor the best bud in California.

This will be similar to how High Times created the Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam in the 1980s which became a global phenomenon. If you win a cannabis cup, your seeds alone could be worth millions. That’s how telling these results can be.

The disappointing thing is that it won’t be judged the old school way of smoking a bunch of flower. No, California is doing it in a science-based high tech approach. Some would say that this is fitting considering California is the tech capital of the world.

However, you won’t be able to taste the terpenes and smell the beautiful aroma that you would get from the traditional way of smoking.

The flower will be judged using lab testing. They will be checked for both CBD and THC levels. They will contrast flowers according to similar profiles so that it evens the playing field a little. For example, they won’t judge a rose wine against a Cabernet.

This doesn’t seem like a fair way to assess cannabis especially since wine is not judged in the same manner at this fair.

The wine at the fair is judged by actually trying it. What’s interesting to note is that back in 1976 Napa valley wine was scored higher than French wines which was judged by actual French wine judges. This was a hugely pivotal moment for the wine industry and made Napa valley the wine destination of the world.

Cannabis could be on the same path here considering California is known for the best weed in the world, primarily that of emerald triangle.

Simply from an agriculture perspective, cannabis has played a huge part in California’s economy for decades producing more than $3 billion a year in licensed sales. As an agricultural product alone, it ranks 4th place after almond, dairy, grapes and right before pistachios.

What’s funny is that if you take into account the illegal market then cannabis is actually ranked the number 1 crop in the state.
