How to Make Cannabis-Infused Beef Bone Broth
Reposted with permission from Mother Indica
It's bone broth time! A cannabis-infused bone broth at that. You may be thinking, "What the heck is bone broth?" or maybe even asking yourself, "Why would I make bone broth? Doesn't it take forever?". Well, you're in luck because this blog post will answer all of your questions and more. We'll discuss what bone broth is, how to make bone broth at home, and why it's so healthy for you. Let's get started!
What is Bone Broth?
Bone broth is typically made with beef or poultry bones that need time to boil before they become a gelatinous broth filled with nutrients and rich, satiating flavors. This liquid gold can be enjoyed as a sipping broth, or as a base in soups, baby foods, and various other dishes. It is truly the perfect remedy for the body, spirit, and wallet.
Bone broth is a nourishing beverage that needs to simmer for hours. When cooked on the stovetop, it can take up to two days, but when done using an Instant Pot, this healing drink will provide optimal nourishment and flavor within just three hours!
How to Make Your Own Bone Broth at Home
Something I just cannot handle is watered-down, overpriced, store-bought boxed or bagged bone broth. Once you know how scrappy and delicious homemade bone broth is (and how inexpensive), you'll never have to buy an $11 sipping bone broth again! Truly truly, this is the way to go.
Beef Bone Broth with CBD-infused Butter (Instant Pot version)
ingredients
2 lbs leftover bones with meat/marrow (I use local grass-fed stew meat with bone)
2 handfuls veggie scraps (I use frozen scraps of onion, garlic, celery, carrots, and zucchini)
4-6 cups filtered water or 2 cups leftover beef broth (if on hand!) and 2-4 cups filtered water
2-3 bay leaves
2-3 tablespoons salt (or just copious amounts, whatever you’re comfortable with)
various dried or fresh woody herbs if on hand (thyme, rosemary, sage etc)
For serving, 5mg THC via butter, oil or tincture and/or 20mg CBD
directions
Add all ingredients to the pot, close and secure the lid, turn the pressure valve to Sealing then set to manual High Pressure for two hours. Once the timer goes off, allow the pot to release on its own. I like to leave it at this stage (Warm) for another 2-3 hours.
Why Is Cannabis-Infused Bone Broth So Healthy for You?
I love bone broth because it’s hydrating, nourishing, AND good for my wallet. I buy my veggies from local farmers' markets when they are in season or grab them while shopping at the grocery store. I use them up then freeze the scraps. I can get bone-in beef for a decent price at the local supermarket and it’s nice that you can use every part of the animal when making bone broth! You can even give the bone to your pup if you got one...
I usually use leftover bone-in stew meat with bones and marrow. You can also buy a bag of beef bone-in pieces at the market or grocery store, but just be sure you’re getting grass-fed bones if possible for maximum health benefits—grass-fed is best because it contains more omega fatty acids and fat-soluble vitamins than grain-fed.
Many bone broth recipes call for the fat to be scraped off before consumption, and to only add a teaspoon of salt to the recipe. This is simply not nutritious enough. Animal fats have been shown to reduce inflammation (contrary to popular belief), salt remineralizes the body, and bone broth is an excellent source of collagen. Bone broth also contains minerals like magnesium and potassium, which are essential for bone health and heart function.
To make this even more medicinal, try adding your favorite cannabis butter, oil or tincture to your personal serving. Simply dose and blend together. Bonus points for having a little frother on hand! Hemp-derived CBD oil can be added to bone broths as an alternative way to enjoy the medicinal benefits of cannabis without getting high or feeling any psychoactive effects.
CBD, or cannabidiol, is one of over 60 cannabinoids found in cannabis plants that have therapeutic effects on our bodies without getting us high. CBD is great for relieving anxiety, inflammation, and pain.
Conclusion
Bone broth is a powerful bone-building beverage that can also be used for keto diets because it’s high in collagen and amino acids. It delivers health benefits like reducing inflammation, improving bone density, and providing relief from pain. Bone broths are simple to make at home with leftover beef stew meat or just bones alone as the main ingredient. Add whatever veggies you have on hand then add salt, bay leaves, garlic cloves (or dried), thyme (or dried), rosemary (or fresh) and sage if you have them on hand too! Cook bone broth in an Instant Pot for three hours before removing the lid to simmer another two hours while cooking over stovetop heat setting at medium-low temperature. This will not only give you a bone-building broth, but it will also give you extra collagen and amino acids. Add CBD oil or CBD tincture to your bone broth for great medicinal benefits without feeling psychoactive!
